Each line is written from your side: what the app gained, what got smoother, what no longer goes wrong.

Changelog

1.1.6

Apple siliconIntel

Improved

  • The model in use sits at the top of its provider's list. A fetched roster runs to hundreds of names, so the one actually chosen was far below the fold and the list opened looking as though nothing had been picked.

  • Being throttled is no longer reported as a failure. A provider's 429 used to put a red banner up immediately, and then the answer arrived anyway a few seconds later; the retry is shown in the thinking row now, and only a 429 that survives every attempt is an error.

Fixed

  • A click in a table cell lands in that cell. Anywhere in the first column used to put the cursor at the start of the second.

  • The source pane in split mode reads in the article's own face, instead of a monospace one no font setting could reach.

  • A turn that writes several files no longer hangs. The approval cards were drawn on top of each other, only the last survived, and the tool behind the first waited for ever on a reply nobody could give. The pending record also survives a crash now, and a stopped turn cannot raise a new card.

  • Leaving a conversation stops the turn it was running. Switching conversations, changing the model or deleting the conversation left a turn running unseen and out of the stop button's reach — still spending tokens and still writing files, and recreating the session file it had just deleted.

  • The version an approved write destroys is the one version history keeps. Whatever you typed while the card sat open used to be the one version that was overwritten without being recorded.

  • New names carry nothing that cannot be opened elsewhere. A Mac takes :, * and ? happily; once the library is synced to another system or put in git, those are files nobody can check out — and by then it is too late. Chinese, spaces and dots inside a name are untouched.

  • The assistant panel stops saying there is no API key once one has been saved.

1.1.5

Apple siliconIntel

Added

  • Typing [[ offers the documents in your library, narrowed by whatever follows it: ↑↓ to choose, ↵ to insert, and the name arrives with its closing ]] already written. ![[ offers the things an embed can draw instead — pictures, drawings, diagrams. When the name belongs to nothing yet, the last row creates it, in the folder the document you are writing lives in.

  • Headings, code blocks and list items fold away. Hover a line that can be folded and a chevron appears in the margin beside it; click it to fold or unfold.

  • A button at the top of the library starts a new document. Cmd+N and the File menu always could; neither of them is obvious.

  • Export as Word: the File menu and the toolbar's menu have an "Export as Word…" of their own, and what comes out is a real .docx — headings, quotes, code blocks and definition lists each carry a named style you can change, and lists are real numbering (a second ordered list starts again at 1). Tables, footnotes, task lists and pictures travel with it; diagrams and drawings go in as vectors, and formulas as pictures.

Fixed

  • UI refinements.

1.1.3

Apple siliconIntel

Added

  • Any font this machine has: the three pickers — interface, editor, assistant — list every family installed here after the built-in ones, each row set in itself, with a search field above them. A chosen family still ends in the system fallbacks, so nothing is missing on a machine without it.

  • A drawing font: Settings → General decides what new text on the drawing canvas is written in. A font picked inside a drawing used to be lost on the way to disk and the next open went back to handwriting; it is saved with the drawing now.

Improved

  • An empty drawing or diagram says what it is: it used to be a faint dashed box, all but invisible on a dark theme, that you clicked to find out what it was. Both now sit in the same framed placeholder, named, with the way in underneath.

1.1.0

Apple siliconIntel

Added

  • Four interface themes: a row of specimens at the top of Settings → General — Paper, Mist, Dusk and Midnight, or follow the system. The palette carries the interface, the editor, the preview, the canvas and the window itself; on the dark themes the accent swaps for a lighter member of its hue.

  • The accent can be chosen: six dots under the themes — wine, amber, moss, teal, navy and violet — colouring links, marks, selections and buttons. The last one opens the system colour picker; a colour that cannot be read on the current paper is nudged until it can.

  • Three more WeChat themes: Wisteria (violet), Slate (no ornament, colour only on links) and Graphite Press (black section blocks and table heads).

  • Several providers on at once: Settings → Provider & Models is now a stack of cards, each with its own switch. Open one and tick the models you want; only ticked models reach the assistant's model menu. A long model list can be filtered or ticked at once, and an id can still be typed in by hand.

  • Graph view: View → Graph View (⌃⌘4) draws the whole library — a dot per document, a line per link — and clicking a dot opens that document in the same tab. Narrow it to whatever sits one, two or three links from the document you were last reading; search names to light up the matches and fade the rest; colour the dots by top-level folder; drag the three force sliders to watch it spread or draw together. A link to a page nobody has written yet is a hollow dot.

Improved

  • Clicking a picture selects the picture: it used to turn back into ![](…) on the first click. It stays a picture now, and ⌘C — or the "Copy" pill on hover — puts the picture and its Markdown on the clipboard together, so Word gets the picture and another editor gets the reference. Double-click for the source.

  • The installer is 8% smaller: 140.6MB down to 129.3MB. The disk image uses a better compression format; the app inside is the same one.

Fixed

  • Typing Chinese into a table no longer pulls the table out of shape: mid-composition every | and padding space on that row came back, and the whole table jumped sideways and back.
  • Typing Chinese in a bullet or a task item no longer shoves the line sideways: mid-composition the - came back and pushed the text right, and a task item lost its checkbox. Bullets and checkboxes now stay put for the whole composition.
  • The assistant looks like it is thinking for the whole turn: the three dots used to show only before it started speaking, so nothing was drawn once a tool call landed. The row now stays until the first line of the reply takes its place.

1.0.0

Apple siliconIntel

Out of beta and on sale. Installing gives you fourteen days of everything, with no account and no email address; after that it turns read-only, and documents still open and export.

One payment, yours for good, with a year of updates and three machines to a code. Price and terms are on the pricing page.

0.9.2

macOS 12 and later, with separate builds for Apple silicon and Intel.

Added

  • Installers: a dmg per architecture — once installed it is an ordinary macOS app.
  • Update check: the app says when there is a newer version, and takes you to that version's notes. It mentions each version once; the switch to turn it off is in Settings → General.

Improved

  • Settings now shows which version you are running.
  • On an English interface the first launch writes English sample documents (it used to write three Chinese diary entries either way).

Fixed

  • Opening a code repository as a library no longer hangs: a folder of tens of thousands of files draws its tree first and indexes behind it.
  • The picture in the sample document is no longer a "failed to load" box — it was never shipped alongside it.
  • English interface text no longer carries a Chinese full-width colon.

0.8.0

Added

  • It works the app for you: "turn on focus mode", "one size bigger", "show me the source alongside" — said, and done.
  • MCP servers built in: Exa, Excalidraw and Mermaid work out of the box, and there is room for your own (an address, or a local process Folding Mirror starts).
  • The assistant draws: canvases and Mermaid diagrams are written out as files and embedded in the page.
  • "How does this work?": it answers out of Folding Mirror's own manual rather than from memory.
  • Chinese and English, following the system or set by hand.

Fixed

  • The model just saved in settings is the one the panel uses, without a restart.
  • The panel's popovers are no longer cut off at its left edge.

0.7.0

Added

  • Slash menu: type / on an empty line and everything you might insert is listed under the caret; keep typing to filter, press return to place it, hands never leaving the keyboard.
  • Several libraries: the foot of the sidebar names the one in use, and switches to another.
  • Article width and text size: set in settings, and the page follows.
  • Back and forward walk the files a tab has been through.
  • Images and canvases open as tabs of their own instead of in a dialog.

Improved

  • Every document remembers where you were reading, across closing the tab and across restarts.

Fixed

  • The rule under a table header is a rule again, not a band of empty cells.
  • One unclosed inline tag no longer sets the rest of the article in bold.

0.6.0

Added

  • Mermaid diagrams: flowcharts, sequence and Gantt diagrams, in a fence or as a .mmd file, and they travel with an exported document.
  • Copy as rich text / copy to WeChat (Chinese interface): inline styles expanded, ready to paste, with five themes.
  • ==highlight==, everywhere the other inline marks are.
  • Right-click menu on the text: bold, headings, lists and insert-table, next to the paragraph you are writing.

Improved

  • Each provider keeps its own key, model and endpoint, so switching between them costs nothing.
  • Launch is quicker: the writing font is cut in two, the library indexes behind the window, and the assistant loads the first time it is asked for something.
  • The outline, the word count and the filename sync share one parse, so typing in a long document stops stuttering.

Fixed

  • An image whose filename holds a space shows its picture.
  • A $ in a price no longer turns the text after it into a formula.
  • The window no longer flashes black when it grows.

0.5.0

Added

  • Tables edited in place: real tables, not a dialog and not a read-only picture; rows, columns and alignment from the right-click menu, with grips where you reach for them.
  • Drawings: an Excalidraw canvas embedded in the page, resized by dragging, saved into drawings/, and openable as a tab straight from the sidebar.
  • Shortcuts follow Typora's, all of them listed in settings and every one rebindable with a click.
  • Separate fonts for the interface, the page and the AI panel.

Fixed

  • The blank lines around an inserted drawing survive (it used to fuse with the paragraphs above and below).

0.4.0

Added

  • An assistant, on your own API key: 22 providers preset, requests going from your machine straight to the provider — nothing relayed, no copy kept.
  • Edits go through you: before a file is written, a command is run or an outside tool is reached, a card lays out what is added and removed, line by line. It reaches disk when you apply it, and a checkpoint of the document is taken first.
  • Skills built in, so the things you ask for often need not be spelled out each time.
  • Context you can see: how much of the window is used, and how this turn splits between fresh input, cache hits and the reply.

Improved

  • A pending write waits for you (leaving the panel or closing it used to count as a refusal, and it was gone when you came back).

Fixed

  • The assistant stays on its conversation instead of following whatever document you are reading.
  • Pressing return to accept an IME candidate is no longer taken as "send".

0.3.0

Added

  • Document checkpoints: taken as you write, with the lines between two of them set side by side, and any of them restorable.
  • Library checkpoints: the whole library can go back to a moment in time, with every file added, changed or deleted at that moment listed out.
  • Restoring has a way back: the current state is checkpointed before a restore.

Improved

  • Checkpoints that changed nothing are no longer listed, so the history holds only real edits.

Fixed

  • Tables and display formulas dim with everything else in focus mode (they used to be the only things left lit).

0.2.0

Added

  • Images and files: drag one in and the file lands beside the document — nothing uploaded, re-hosted or renamed.
  • Export to PDF: A4 in the body font from settings, with the glyphs it used embedded, so it looks the same on a machine that has none of your fonts.
  • Export to HTML: one self-contained file.
  • Syntax-highlighted code in the exported PDF and HTML.
  • Find and replace within the current document, one at a time or all at once.

Improved

  • Entries can be dragged into another folder in the sidebar.

Fixed

  • An export is typeset the way the app is (font, leading and column width all used to shift on the way out).

0.1.0

First release.

Folding Mirror is a WYSIWYG Markdown editor: source and finished page folded onto one sheet, so what you type is already how it will look. Underneath is always plain .md in a folder you chose — no account, no database, no telemetry.

Added

  • Live preview: marks fade behind the words and only the line your caret is on shows its source; a split view is there when you want it.
  • Formulas: inline and display maths through KaTeX, rendered once the caret leaves the pair.
  • A library is an ordinary folder: the tree in the sidebar is the tree on disk, and renaming or deleting there is real.
  • Tabs: several documents at once; ⌘⇧T brings back a closed tab, still scrolled where you left it.
  • Links and mentions: join two notes with [[brackets]] and the backlinks grow on their own.
  • Outline and full-text search: navigate by heading level; click a search result to land on that line.
  • Focus and typewriter modes: dim everything but the paragraph you are in, and pin the current line at a fixed height.
  • Word count: by character for Chinese, and for the selection alone when there is one.
